Job Title:

Utility Fixer

Summary:

The purpose of this job is to give looms a thorough cleaning when a warp run is completed and before the next warp run begins, and also transporting wire to be used in the weaving process and hauling away woven mill rolls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

include the following, other duties may be assigned

 

  • Regular attendance is required, with proper notification for absences, in accordance with the IWM International Attendance Policy.
  • When warp run is complete, disengage warp from loom and remove any leftover wire from the warp.
  • Thoroughly clean the loom with cloths.
  • Clean floor area around loom.
  • Operate power and manual driven hand trucks.
  • Operate forklift in accordance with company policy on forklift safety.
  • Document daily forklift inspection and battery maintenance.
  • Haul skids of woven cloth to storage area and unload skids.
  • Supply loom with baskets of wire to be used as fill wire.
  • Transport wire to warp mills.
  • Roll in full warps and pre-stick warps.
  • Truck wire on small cart to the bar looms.
  • Remove empty spools and baskets as needed.
  • Work with warp wrecks as needed.
  • Stick warps as needed.
  • Assist in department as needed.

Education and/or Experience:

Requires ability to read and write and use calculator.
Ability to follow simple instructions.
Required to take annual refresher course in forklift operation.

Language Skills:

Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide with use of calculator.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Safety:

Employees must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required in each production department.  Employees are required to follow all safety rules as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed (2/3 and more of the time) to fumes or airborne particles.  The employee frequently works (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) near moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed (less than 1/3 of the time) to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works (2/3 and more of the time) near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is occasionally exposed (less than 1/3 of the time) to caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock and vibration.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  The noise level makes it nearly impossible for employees to hear a forklift, thus making the forklift operator’s visual contact even more crucial.

Constant awareness to safety for the employee and others in the vicinity.

 

Employee will get very dirty on this job.
