Job Title:
Steel HR/HI Operator
Summary
Efficiently operate one steel rod and seven (7) intermediate machine, while producing and maintaining good quality product.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Regular attendance is required, with proper notification for absences, in accordance with the New York Wire Attendance Policy.
- Using forklift, move bundles of wire to load and unload.
- Load coils onto the payoff as needed.
- Thread machine with appropriate die sizes and set machine up for that size.
- Change full bundles and identify.
- Responsible for keeping work area clean.
- Complete production sheets.
- Assist in department, as needed.

Education and/or Experience:
Some basic mechanical ability. Knowledge of the use of simple hand tools. Ability to operate a forklift, or ability to learn.
Language Skills
Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print in English
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Annual forklift training and certification.
Safety:
Employees must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required in each production department. Employees are required to follow all safety rules as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Section V.

The employee is occasionally required (less than 1/3 of the time) to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Ability to balance while standing on one foot is required.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move (up to 1/3 of the time) up to 85 pounds, and push stems of wire weighing up to 550 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works (2/3 and more of the time) near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed (less than 1/3 of the time) to extreme cold.
The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
